RARE MOUNTAIN DEW BOTTLE BRINGS $866.58 AT AUCTION

Up for auction is a nice hard to find 1958, 24 oz Mountain Dew Bottle by Charlie and Bill. The condition, no chips or cracks.  It is approx. 11 1/4" tall 3" is base. This bottle was produced in the Tri-City, Johnson City Tenn.. 

 This is an very old Estate Find and a must for any collector. Thanks For Looking!

                                         History OF bottle

The 24 oz "by Charlie and Bill" bottle is one of the six most coveted Mountain Dew bottles and the second rarest bottle in any Mountain Dew collector's collection.  In 1958 Bill Bridgforth, manager of Tri-Cities beverage, ordered the 24 oz bottles "by Charlie and Bill".  This was the third bottle produced out of the Tri-City Beverage plant. Mr. Bridgforth and Tri-Cities owner Charlie Gordon were very proud of this unique new bottle. Charlie Gordon Tri-City Beverage [ with his two manger, Bill and Jim] was the frist plant any were in the world to commercially produce Mountain Dew.  His " by Charlie and Jim and Bill" bottle [1954] was the frist time the public had ever tasted Mountain Dew commercially and the frist  ACL Mountain Dew bottle. A year later, when Bill Kibler left Tri-City, Charlie started putting his Mountain Dew in a "by Charlie and Jim" bottle.  Several years later Jim Archer Left Tri-City and Bill Bridgforth replaced him has the new plant manger. Bill decided that Tri-City had enough regular size bottles in it's inventory and in 1958 decided to try a new approach, a new bottle. He ordered a refillable 24 oz. The 24 oz bottle was used exclusively in East Tennessee until around 1964 when Pepsi bought the Mountain Dew Franchise. There is a interesting final chapter to this bottle, a chapter that explains it's rarity. Some time after 1964, Bill Bridgforth got tired of paying the return deposit on the bottles he could not use, but had no choice "cause it has my name on it". So from roughly 1964 until he left Tri-City in the 80's Bill and his route salesman searched out and broke every 24 oz bottle they could find.

These license plates were affixed to the Ford roadster that FDR drove when he visited the Little White House in Warm Springs , GA , during his presidency. They are one-of-a-kind, and are in exactly the condition they were when removed from the car at the end of 1941. They have been in storage since 1941, are in original condition, and have not been painted or otherwise cleaned up. The photos show some light rust marks around the bolt holes and slight rust marks along the bottom of the reverse of the "FDR" plate.Each plate measures approximately 14" by 6-1/2". The photos accurately depict the color of the plates.

                            When a Harley Davidson oil can sold at auction on Feb 20 2005 for $1,901.77 some thought it was just a fluke but  when another can sold (by the same collector) on March 6 2005 for $2,126.00  it now appears to be the norm for this type of can
